TOOTH WHITENING

Tooth bleaching
Tooth whitening (bleaching) is a common esthetic procedure in dentistry, provided in dental office or at home. As a person ages the adult teeth often become darker. Therefore, the improvement in the brightness and whiteness of their smile is often connected to better oral health and self-esteem. Genetic traits are only one of the reasons why some people have their teeth darker than others. There are also other actions which lead to teeth staining: smoking, consumption of red wine, coffee, tea, other deeply-colored beverages and food.
Teeth whitening options:
In-Office Whitening
Significant colour change in a short period of time is the major benefit of in-office whitening. This protocol involves the carefully controlled use of a relatively high-concentration peroxide gel (35-37%), applied to the teeth by the dentist. Generally, the peroxide remains on the teeth for several 15 to 20 minute intervals that add up to an hour (at most). Bleaching can cause a temporary increase in sensitivity that lasts no longer than a day or two. Those with particularly stubborn staining may be advised to return for one or more additional bleaching sessions, or may be asked to continue with a home-use whitening system
Professionally Dispensed Take-Home Whitening Kits
Most of the dentists concern professionally dispensed take-home whitening kits as better option since the bleaching results stay over the long haul. Home Whitening incorporate an easy-to-use lower-concentration peroxide gel (10-16%) that remains on the teeth for few hours (sometimes overnight). The lower the peroxide percentage, the longer it may safely remain on the teeth. The gel is applied to the teeth using custom-made bleaching trays that resemble mouth guards. The treatment usually lasts for 1-2 weeks.
