Surgical treatments in oral cavity

The oral surgery is a specialty in dentistry that includes tooth and root removal, removal of impacted and embedded teeth, root end surgery (or apicoectomy, when a root inflammation is not possible to treat with root canal treatment and a root tip is removed) and the removal of cyst and tumor.

The oral surgery deals also with preparing the site for the future placement of dental implants (sinus-lift or maxillary sinus floor augmentation procedure, bone grafts, augmentation procedures with biomaterials, guided bone augmentation) and extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.
